Lolita Blog Carnival: Lolita and You in 8 Years

Hello my lovely readers!
Today I would like to write another post inspired by Lolita Blog Carnival group. For any of you who don't know what this group is, I will explain quickly. It is a online group for Lolita bloggers, who decide on a topic, write our posts about it and then link other participants posts too. It's a great way to get ideas for blogging and to promote fellow Lolita blogs!

This week's topic is " Lolita and You in 8 Years". It's a very interesting subject for me, because I myself have been thinking about it recently. I belong to the older part of Lolita community and I think my Lolita style will change a bit in next 8 years. I only wear classic Lolita and I don't think it will change in the future.  I definitely won't wear sweet style, I might incorporate gothic elements in my style.

Three years ago, when I just started getting into this fashion, creams, pastels and flowery pattern were my favourite. I noticed that in next three years I slowly started wearing darker colours, especially brown and bordeaux.  I think this will progress in the future and my collection will  consist more dark colours. I hope I will start experimenting with greens and blue, but I am not sure if I will be brave enough to wear black pieces. I totally stopped wearing black around 5 years ago, I am not sure why (I think it reminded me about my past where I worn only blacks, and I tried very hard to forget it...).  I do like some black dresses but they just don't seem like me. They look much better on other Lolitas and I don't think they would suit my personality.

When I started wearing Lolita I was getting lots of offbrand cotton shirts especially from Taobao shops.  Then i slowly started wearing chiffon blouses because they were much more classy and much easier to maintain. Cotton shirts look lovely when you get them brand new, but for me personally are a nightmare to maintain, especially when they have lots of lace. Ironing them takes ages!  I also stopped wearing white blouses and instead I got cream ones. White blouses look good on younger Lolitas, but don't suit mature ladies. I am more than sure that I will be wearing chiffon blouses in 8 years time. I might move to more darker colours, which I still wear  currently.

When you get into Lolita, you usually get the cheapest pieces and those are usually skirts. It was the same with me, I used to buy lots of skirt which I gradually replaced by JSKs and OPs. I think that in the future I will wear more one pieces than jumper skirts. I personally think that OPs suit mature Lolitas more, unless you wear JSKs with matching darker blouses and the whole coord looks more like a one piece. I also think that I will wear longer dresses, but I will have to replace my petticoats for longer and less puffy ones.
I don't think my accessories will change in the future. I love wearing classic vintage style jewellery and hats. I might stop wearing head bows, and replace them with small flower clips or simple fascinators.  I will probably still, wear ott headwear, like bonnets for bigger events, but I will try to tone down my head pieces for casual every day wear.

I'm hoping that in 8 years I will settle down with my other live half and we will finally have our own place. Therefore I think I will try to decorate my place in classic Lolita style. I am not sure if I will still be attending small Lolita meets. I think it will depend if I still will be living in the same city as I am now. It would be great because I have so many Lolita friends here. I think we will be organising small Lolita tea parties at our houses or baking or carting sessions :)

There is also a possibility that in 8 years I will become a Lolita mum.... Haha, yes there is a small possibility! I don't really think about it now but you never know how your life will turn out in the future. I always say to myself "Never say never". Having a child is a great responsibility and there is a chance, depending on my financial situation, that I might have to sell part of my Lolita wardrobe. I hope this won't happen! :)
I also have a dream deep inside my heart. I wish I could start my little Lolita business,  where I could sew dresses and make small accessories.  I don't want it to be big, just a small hobby which could support my main income. To be honest I don't really believe it will happen, but you do need some dreams in your life, right?

Lolita Blog Carnival: 3 prints in your favourite colourway

Hello my lovelies!
It is the time for another post from Lolita Blog Carnival! Today's subject is: 3 prints in your favourite colourway.
Now, I am not sure what my favourite colourway is... I know I like pastels, creams, browns and bordeaux. I also find it very difficult to choose the colour of a dress I want to buy, and then I end up getting two of them (yeah I do that a lot...). But for the sake of this post I will choose one and it will be blue. But not the casual simple blue, but the turquoise, the sea kind of blue :)

This is a dress which takes the first place on my wish list, not only because I love it but also because it is so rare and difficult to find... I like it not only because it's Innocent World and it has deers on the print, but also because of it's shade of blue. The whole dress makes the impression of a sweet style but when coordinated well, it can be a perfect example of an elegant Lolita outfit.

This is one of many examples of Innocent World dresses where I can't decide which colour to choose. I honestly loved all three of them, cream, blue and brown but then I saw a photo of it on Tumblr and I went for a blue one first. Then this OP was on sale and I got myself second brown one. I love both of them equally but because of blue is such a rare colour in Lolita, the blue one has definitely special place in my wardrobe.

This was one of the dresses I fell in love when I got into Lolita, back in 2011. I was still learning all of the main Japanese brands and Innocent World has got my main attention. Back then I didn't even expect I could buy such an expensive dresses and I missed getting many beautiful prints. This was one of them but I was lucky to get it last year from Mbook auctions! It is so simple yet so elegant!

Lolita 52 week challenge - Week 2: 5 keywords that describe my personal Lolita style

Hello my lovely readers!
I have been very busy in last two weeks, I had to work almost every day and I didn't have much time for blogging. I missed one week for my Lolita 52 week challenge, and now I have to write two posts this week to make it up!
This weeks question is: 5 keywords that describe my personal Lolita style.
I mentioned in one of my previous post that I am a bit jealous of girls who can wear wigs, but I am kind of glad that I don't. In my personal style I try to embrace my natural features, like my hair for example. I don't wear circle lenses, mainly because of my eye problems, but I am not to bothered about it. I want my Lolita style to be as natural as possible. I want to be able to wear my dresses not only for meets, but also on the casual days, for shopping or just a meet with a family. I want my style to be a clothing just as any other fashion style, and not a dress up for a special occasions.

As a classic Lolita this is a very important thing in my style. I want it to be elegant and with lots of class. I kind of want to feel like a proper lady :) It also makes me act with elegance, forcing me to have more manners than normally and in some way it makes me feel like a better person in a moral way. For example I tend to help older people on the bus etc, etc :)

Before I found out about Lolita fashion, for a long time I tried to figure out which fashion style suits me the most and I failed. I tried many but I didn't feel comfortable in any of them. I always felt like I'm pretending to be someone from a magazine cover. The worst thing was going shopping to find clothes. I had an idea in my head but I could never find things I liked. I was even angry at myself that I couldn't make clothes I imagined in my head. And then I found out about Lolita and everything changed. It was the only fashion style where being creative and making your own clothes in your own personal, unique style wasn't seen as something odd.

I think vintage style goes really well with classic Lolita style and I do try to incorporate many vintage elements in my coords. Most of the times they are vintage gloves or jewellery, but I also try to create accessories in vintage style when they are not easily available.

Yes, I think I am a Lolita hoarder. I find it difficult to part with my Lolita clothes and it seems I am buying more and more things knowing deep inside that I have enough. I have so many bags and shoes, but I still buy more. Not only because I like new designs, but mainly because I am very picky about colour shades or styles. One shade of cream will not match certain coord and I feel I am forced to get this item in a colour that will match perfectly :3

Phew, this was a difficult question for me as I never thought about my personal Lolita style. I still consider myself a learner and I think my Lolita style should be improoved, but those 5 elements will still be important elements in my style, whether I stay in classic style or try to experiment with other Lolita styles.

I hope you all enjoyed this weeks post!

Lolita 52 week challenge - Week 1: Impulse buys that were totally worth it

Hello my lovelies!
As I mentioned before, I started a 52 week Lolita challenge, but I was way too tired last time and I haven't wrote a first post from the list. Today is the last day and my last chance to start my challenge. I let my boyfriend to choose first topic and he chose number 31:  Impulse buys that were totally worth it.

Hell, that's a difficult one for the first time! I usually think a lot about my purchases and I tend to hesitate a lot before I decide on buying Lolita item, even if its just a accessory. But I will try to choose things I bought without much hesitation and they turned out to be one of the best buys ever.

I think this was one of my impulse buys, just to try if they will suit me or not. I bought a full wig once but it I didn't like it at all. I have very thick and long natural hair and it was a big challenge to try to fit it all under a wig cap and the wig itself. I got the wig from Linea Storia  shop from Rakuten. It was lovely, just way to small for me :( I sold the wig and I got hugely discouraged by this experience. I thought that I will be forced to style my natural hair for hours before meets, until I discovered hair extensions. I had seen Kyra wearing styled long curled ponytails and she always looked amazing and I thought, why not try it?

Link here
First I got myself fringe and half wig, same again from Linea Storia, because I already knew which colour to choose. I worn both to the big Tea Party event, featuring Juliette et Justine in 2012.

Me and Kyra , co organiser of the Tea Party event.
From that moment I knew that I want a fringe but I was too scared to cut my hair. I always had long hair and I worn it simply with a hair band. My hair is naturally curly and I wasn't sure how easy it will be to maintain a short fringe. One day I got brave and went to hairdresser straight from work, asked for a Lolita style bangs (had to explain the hair style!) and I've been having fringe since then. It was the best decision in my life, all thanks to impulse purchase from Linea Storia!

But this is not the end of the story! Since then I got so hooked up on half wigs and extensions, that now I have three half wigs, two simple hair extensions,  two pairs of ponytails, one clip on and one tied one; two wig ropes, and two pairs of scrunchy elastic pony tails. And fake braided hair bands :) And I think I will be buying more because it's such a simple and a quick way to style your hair. Wigs are beautiful and I am kind of jealous of other Lolitas who can wear them, but they just don't work for me. I like my natural hair more and I want to grow them to be as long as possible. Plus I can't find wigs that are stretchy enough to fit my hair...
Me and Phoebe (boo, me without fringe :3 )
Me wearing half wig.
Me wearing hair ropes.
Me wearing pony tail clipons.
Buying my first fake fringe and half wig actually changed my life and I think it made me look much better as a Lolita. I became a bit more confident with my look and I accept my face more than before :) I can totally recommend getting hair extensions to anyone who doesn't like wigs but would like to style hair in a different way. They are cheap and come in so many styles. Plus you won't feel so hot in the summer like when wearing wig!

I hope you all enjoyed my first post from "Lolita 52 week challenge", I hope I did it right!
Till the next time!

Lolita Blog Carnival: 2014 Trends You Predict

Hello my lovely readers!
I hope you had a lovely Christmas and a New Year!

Today I would like to write about another topic from Lolita Blog Carnival group, which this week is 2014 Lolita trends you predict. I have to say this is a very difficult thing to do for me...I have been into Lolita for almost three years now and I still consider myself a beginner and therefore I am not sure which way Lolita fashion will go this year, but I will try my best to think of some interesting predictions :)

As 2013 year was all about flowers especially crown flowers, this 2014 year will be all about gold. Everywhere. We already saw brands adding gold lace and gold styled ribbons, like Angelic Pretty and Baby the Stars Shine Bright. This year, especially summer I think, will be filled with gold prints, accessories with gold ribbon, laces (especially gold embroidered lace!), jewellery and more. Also it won't be only in classic style, sweet and Gothic style will be decorated with gold accents too.

I have seen comments on the Internet that classic style will stop being as popular as it was in 2013. In my opinion it won't happen. Classic Lolita style will still be the most popular one among other sub styles. Moreover, sweet and Gothic style will be strongly influenced by a classic style. Sweet prints will be more calmed down and not as sweet as usual, and they will be much easier to coordinate in a classic style.

Juliette et Justine has always been the most popular brand with dresses with painting prints, but in 2014 more brands will jump on the prints reproduction bandwagon. You have already seen BtSSB dress "Labirynth" with more or less painting style design. My prediction is that especially in summer, spring time, we will have other brands like Innocent World making dresses with print reproductions or at least looking like a painting (probably less known ones).

I got into Lolita in 2011 and straight away I found out about Tobao Lolita indie brands. Since then most of them have evolved and there were many more new shops opened since. Taobao and other Asian Lolita brands are now very popular and I think they will become a big competition for main Japanese brands. The main reason will be that Lolita brands from China will start taking orders directly from overseas customers (some shops already do that). SS wont be needed like in 2013 and cheaper Lolita clothing will me more available for overseas customers.

Now this is my extreme prediction but I think it would suit Lolita so well! Lolita brands have explored many different historical styles from Europe, but I still haven't seen anything inspired by Russian royal family. I think it will become popular especially in the 2014 winter time. It will be filed with gold, faux fur and leather, flower patterns, folklore and religious prints.

Yes, I said it.... We have heard so many stories about Bodyline and MrYan... And I think most of people have enough of their shop. Not only because of the scandals, but also because of Taobao and other Asian indie brands are becoming more popular and widely available. Lolitas are willing to pay just a bit extra for dress from Haenuli or Infanta, rather than get old design from Bodyline (it seems they don't release new clothes so often...). I am not sure if Bodyline will shut down, go bankrupt or Mr Yan will go to jail.... :P Maybe they will stop making Lolita clothes and move towards cosplay?
